Genesee County marks Hindu Heritage Month, names Flint's Kasi Temple
The county board's RES-2026-1290 recognizes October 2026 and cites Flint's Sri Paschima Kasi Viswanatha Temple, founded in 1979.

The Genesee County Board of Commissioners passed RES-2026-1290 on Sep 23, 2026, recognizing October 2026 as Hindu Heritage Month. The item was co-curated by the county's DEI Commission.
The resolution names Flint institutions directly. It cites the "Sri Paschima Kasi Viswanatha Temple, (also known as Kasi Temple Flint), which holds the historic distinction of being the first Shiva Temple established in the mainland United States, founded in 1979." It also names the India Club of Genesee County and Chinmaya Mission Flint, whose Tapovanam ashram was inaugurated in 1990.
