Unity without erasure
Hindu unity is a practical task. It fails when it becomes a demand that every difference disappear.

Unity is a capacity. Erasure is a mood.
A people that can only imagine unity as sameness will spend its life policing cousins. A people that imagines unity as a bind can spend its life doing the actual work.
The bind
The Maratha lesson, the four aims, and the epics all point at the same mechanism. Difference is real. Jati is real. Language is real. The bind is also real. The bind is the inheritance.
Two cheap failures
Contempt for one's own is one failure. Contempt for every neighbor is another. Both photograph well. Neither builds a house.
This essay is a refusal of both. Remaining one people does not require becoming one face. It requires knowing the map well enough to stand on it together.
